Democracy: now dead, still beautiful? The ghost of Benjamin Franklin, the first postmaster general, steps into a blistering conflict between co-workers about gay marriage, free speech, the country’s racial and class divide, and democracy, itself, as it erupts in a contemporary one-room post office. Here, the audience will find America, in its gorgeous and messy diversity, looking for reason where there seems to be none.
The Heart Explained
Frank introduces us to the beauty, responsibility, and integrity of his work, what the post office stands for: a truly democratic space, open to all.
The most beautiful thing about the mail is
reception, and the most beautiful thing
about reception is truth, and truth is
justice is honesty, personified, and honesty is
the heart explained, and words
explain reason, and reason matters, is
particular, is personal, as is what we post and sort
and deliver, and delivery is story is voice is
song, and song is country is search is pride.
